Board and Officers

Mr Matthew Wood

Chairman

Mr Wood has over 15 years experience in the resources sector with both major and junior mining companies and has extensive experience in the technical and economics evaluation of resource projects throughout the world. Mr Wood has an honours degree in geology from the University of New South Wales in Australia and a graduate certificate in mineral economics from the Western Australian School of Mines.

Mr Wood's expertise is in project identification, negotiation, acquisition and corporate development. In addition, he has led or been involved with successful discovery teams responsible for defining a number of gold and base metal deposits, including the Challenger gold deposit in South Australia and the Fortitude and Rosemont gold deposits in Western Australia.

Mr Wood has spent a considerable time in Brazil leading a number of exploration projects and is very familiar with the geology associated with the Brazilian gold and metalliferous regions. He was a founding director of Iberian Resources and is currently a director of Black Range Minerals, Signature Metals, Overland Resources and Bellamel Mining.

Mr Anthony Polglase

Managing Director

With 30 years multi-disciplined mining experience across 10 different countries, Mr Polglase is qualified in mechanical and electrical engineering with an honours degree in Metallurgy from the Camborne School of Mines, UK.

Mr Polglase has acquired detailed knowledge relating the development and operation of gold, copper, lead, zinc and tin projects and has either been responsible for or closely involved with the commissioning of more than seven mining projects. Previous employers include Iberian Resources, Ivernia Corp, Rio Tinto, TVX and Ashanti Goldfields.

Project management including critical evaluation, implementation and commissioning are Mr Polglase's strengths. Mr Polglase has a demonstrated ability of successfully bringing projects on line in the most challenging of environments including former Soviet Union countries.

Mr Polglase is fluent in Portuguese and resides in Brazil.

Mr Simon Mottram

Executive Director of Exploration

Mr Mottram is a geologist with 17 years experience predominantly in iron oxide copper gold, nickel sulphide and precious metals. Having held senior management positions with a number of successful mining companies both in Australia and overseas Mr Mottram has extensive knowledge in base and precious metal evaluations, and has seen a number of discoveries advanced through to commercial mine development, and has been a part of several significant exploration successes. His exploration experience aligns extremely well with Avanco's projects and Mr Mottram is an expert in the application of modern exploration techniques, large scale drill programmes and feasibility studies. Mr Mottram is a graduate of Melbourne RMIT University, a Member of AusIMM and will assume responsibility for all of the company's exploration activities.

Mr Scott Funston

Joint Company Secretary and Executive Director

Mr Funston is a qualified Chartered Accountant with experience in the mining industry and the accounting profession. His expertise is financial management, regulatory compliance and general corporate advice. Mr Funston possesses a strong knowledge of the Australian Securities Exchange requirements and currently assists a number of resources companies operating throughout Australia, South America, USA and Canada with financial accounting, stock exchange compliance and regulatory activities.

Mr David McEntaggart

Joint Company Secretary

Mr McEntaggart has a Bachelor of Commerce and is a qualified Chartered Accountant with experience in the mining industry and accounting profession. His experience includes exposure to Australian and international resource companies. Mr McEntaggart provides services to a number of companies specialising in financial accounting and securities exchange compliance.

Mr Antonio Madalosso

Exploration Manager

Mr Madalosso is a Brazilian national with over 30 years experience in Brazil and Australia and has previously held senior positions with Codelco, Barrick Gold, Santa-Fe Gold and Western Mining Corporation (WMC). He has a MSc. in geology from the University of Missouri, USA and brings a wealth of Brazilian experience including more than ten years exploration in the world class Carajas Mineral Province. Mr Madalosso has significant experience in all phases of exploration, from regional investigations to ore reserve calculations and whose strength is in target selection.

As Chief Geologist for Barrick Gold in Brazil, Mr Madalosso was responsible for the original discoveries at Rio Verde and the early exploration on the Serra Verde property. As Codelco’s most senior geologist in Brazil, he was technical advisor for all Codelco-AngloAmerican JV’s in the Carajas.

Mr Madalosso has specific experience associated with exploration models including, IOCG’s, Irish type Zn-Pb, stratiform Cu, Mississippi valley types and Kambalda Ni type deposits. He was associated with 3 gold discoveries in the Iron Quadrangle in the state of Minas Gerais while working for WMC.

Mr Colin Jones

Non Executive Director

Mr Jones started his mining career with British Coal in South Wales and following Coal Mine certification, completed a mining degree at Cardiff University in the UK. Several years of contract management followed with Thyssens, supervising mine development and shaft sinking activities. He joined Rio Tinto in 1982, becoming General Manager at the South Crofty Tin Mine, Cornwall; his executive mine management experience culminated at the world class Copper Mine in Portugal where he was the Project Manager and later became the Director of Production.

Mr Jones consulting expertise includes 10 years with Rio Tinto Technical Services where, as Principal Mining Consultant, he consulted globally. Projects included the underground development of the Fortaleza Nickel Mine in Brazil and the underground development at the Palabora mine in South Africa, where he remains a consultant.

Consulting widely as an independent for the last 7 years, Mr. Jones is authority in the application of the block caving method for economic mining of low grade deposits. Mr. Jones was a consultant for the underground mine development at Argyle Diamonds in Western Australia and is currently a consultant for the multi-billion dollar copper mine projects at Resolution (USA) and Oyu Tolgoi (Mongolia).

Mr. Jones has an MBA, speaks Portuguese and maintains a residence in Brazil.
